Today’s USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

USO airport centers throughout the country offer around-the clock hospitality for traveling service members and their families. Our trademark USO tours bring America and its celebrities to service members who are assigned far from home, to entertain them and convey the support of the nation. And our many specialized programs offer a continuum of support to service members throughout their journey of service, from the first time they don the uniform until the last time they take it off.

The USO is not part of the federal government. A congressionally chartered, private organization, the USO relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to support its activities, and is powered by a family of volunteers to accomplish our mission of connection.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (IATA: PHX, ICAO: KPHX, FAALID: PHX) is a civil-military public airport 3 miles (2.6 nmi; 4.8 km) east of downtownPhoenix, in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States.[1] It is Arizona's largest and busiest airport, and among the largest commercial airports in the United States; in 2020, PHX was the 8th-busiest airport in the United States and 24th-busiest in the world.[3] The airport serves as a hub for American Airlines and a base for Southwest Airlines. In 2019, American carried nearly 46% of all PHX passengers and employed nearly 9,500 people, making it the airport's largest carrier.[4][5][6]

The airport is also home to the 161st Air Refueling Wing (161 ARW), an Air Mobility Command (AMC)-gained unit of the Arizona Air National Guard. The military enclave is known as the Goldwater Air National Guard Base. One of two flying units in the Arizona ANG, the 161 ARW currently flies the KC-135R Stratotanker aircraft. In addition to its domestic role as a National Guard unit, answering to the Governor of Arizona, the 161 ARW also performs both a stateside and overseas role as a USAF organization, supporting air refueling and air mobility missions worldwide.[7]

Sky Harbor Airport's evocative name was conceived by J. Parker Van Zandt, the owner of Scenic Airways, in 1928. However, the reasoning for the name is apparently unknown. Scenic Airways collapsed in 1929 after the infamous Black Friday stock market crash.[8][9] Sky Harbor was built in late 1928 through early 1929 initially with one runway and was the fourth airport built in Phoenix.[9] Acme Investment Company owned the airport until 1935 after the collapse of Scenic Airways. On February 23, 1929, Maddux Air Lines began the airport's first scheduled passenger service with a route between San Francisco and El Paso stopping in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and several other cities however the service was short lived, ending by autumn 1929. Standard Air Lines had been serving Phoenix since late 1927 at a different airport and began landing at Sky Harbor on August 5, 1929. Standard operated a route between Los Angeles and El Paso stopping at Phoenix, Tucson, and Douglas, Arizona. Standard was acquired by American Airways in 1930 which later became American Airlines. American extended the route eastward to New York by way of Dallas, Nashville, and many other cities making for a southern transcontinental route across the United States.[10] In 1935 the city of Phoenix purchased Sky Harbor airport from Acme for $100,000.

TWA began service to San Francisco in 1938 and added Phoenix onto its transcontinental network by 1944 with flights to Los Angeles and eastward to New York stopping at Albuquerque, Kansas City, and many more cities. Arizona Airways began intrastate service within Arizona in 1946 and merged into Frontier Airlines in 1950 which added new routes to Denver, Albuquerque, and El Paso. Bonanza Airlines began service by 1951 with a route to Las Vegas and Reno making several stops at smaller communities. New routes to Salt Lake City and Southern California were added in the 1960s along with nonstop flights to Las Vegas and Reno aboard Douglas DC-9 jets by 1965. Bonanza merged with two other carriers to become Air West in 1968 and was changed to Hughes Airwest in 1970 adding several new routes, including service to Mexico, creating a hub at Phoenix. Hughes Airwest was then merged into Republic Airlines in 1980 which continued the Phoenix hub operation until the mid-1980s. Western Airlines came to Sky Harbor in 1957 with flights to Denver, Los Angeles and San Diego, Continental Airlines came in 1961 to El Paso, Los Angeles, and Tucson, and Delta Air Lines began flights to Dallas by 1969.[11] Since airline deregulation in 1978, Phoenix has seen numerous new air carriers begin service including United Airlines in 1980 and Southwest Airlines in 1982.

After World War II the airport began work on a new passenger terminal, as well as a new parallel runway and a diagonal runway.[12] On the February 1953 C&GS diagram runways 8L and 8R are each 6,000 feet (1,800 m) long and runway 3 is 5,500 feet (1,700 m).

The $835,000 Terminal 1 (originally called the "West Wing") which also had the first control tower, opened in October 1952.[12] It was torn down in 1991 and replaced by a cell phone waiting lot, with Terminal 1's parking lot now being the West Economy lot.

The April 1957 OAG shows 42 scheduled airline departures a day: 16 American, 11 TWA, 10 Bonanza, and 5 Frontier. American began a nonstop DC-7 to New York (Idlewild) in the summer of 1959. Western Airlines began service in 1958 followed by Continental Airlines in 1961. Delta Air Lines began service in 1969 and was merged with Western in 1987, keeping the Delta brand.

The airport's master plan was redesigned in 1959 to eliminate the cross runway to make room for new terminals.[12] American and TWA began jet service to Phoenix in 1960 and 1961 respectively, and Terminal 2 (originally called the "East Wing") opened in 1962.[13] Terminal 2 was designed by the Phoenix architectural firms of Weaver & Drover and Lescher & Mahoney and opened in 1962.[14] Terminal 2 also featured a 16-foot (4.9 m) high and 75-foot (23 m) wide mural composed of 52 different materials, including mosaic glass, gemstones, shells, and vintage toys. The Phoenix, designed by the late French-American artist and full-time resident of Phoenix Paul Coze, was commissioned in 1960 as Phoenix's first work of public art and was installed in 1962 in the main lobby area of the terminal. The Phoenix will be installed in the Rental Car Center in 2021.[15] In November 2006, a Military and Veterans Hospitality Room, sponsored by the Phoenix Military and Veterans Commission, was opened in Terminal 2. It has since relocated to Terminal 4 as the new USO. This terminal underwent two renovation projects. The first was completed in 1988.[16] The second project, which cost $24 million and was designed by DWL Architects + Planners, Inc., was completed in 2007.[14]

Designed by DWL Architects + Planners, Inc., construction on terminal 3 began in January 1977. Terminal 3 opened in October 1979,[12] when the "East" and "West" names were dropped, since they were no longer the only two terminals.

Bonanza Air Lines moved its headquarters from Las Vegas to Phoenix in 1966. Bonanza merged with two other airlines to form Air West, which became Hughes Airwest after Howard Hughes bought it in 1970.[17] After airline deregulation in 1978 former Hughes Airwest executive Ed Beauvais formed a plan for a new airline based in Phoenix. He founded America West Airlines in 1981, which began service from Phoenix in 1983 and doubled in size during its first year. By the end of the decade America West was serving over 80 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and was lobbying for transpacific service. In late 1992 America West contracted with Mesa Airlines to create a new feeder network called America West Express which served many smaller communities in Arizona, California, Colorado, and New Mexico.[17]

After the Airline Deregulation Act was signed in 1978, many new airlines began service. Eastern Airlines and Allegheny Airlines soon began service in 1979 followed by United Airlines in 1980. Allegheny changed its name to USAir shortly after beginning service in 1979.

Southwest Airlines arrived at Phoenix in January 1982 with 13 daily flights to 12 cities; by 1986 it had 64 daily flights from Phoenix and had a crew base there. Southwest opened a maintenance facility at PHX in 1992 which was its largest.[18]

In October 1989 ground was broken for Terminal 4, the largest terminal.[19] It opened on November 2, 1990[20] with four concourses: N2 and N3 on the north side and S3 and S4 on the south side. In 1994 the N4 International Concourse was opened, adding 10 gates and a sterile walkway to the S4 concourse. In 1997 construction began on the 14-gate N1 concourse for America West Airlines. It was completed in June 1998 at a cost of $50 million,[21] completing the expansion of the north side of the terminal. On the south side of the terminal, construction began in 2002 on the eight-gate S2 concourse for Southwest Airlines. This project was completed in 2004 and has a different architectural design from the other six concourses. The eighth and final concourse for Terminal 4 began construction in May 2019. Terminal 4 is named after former Arizona Senator and 1964 Presidential candidate Barry M. Goldwater. After Goldwater's death in 1998, the then-mayor of Phoenix, Skip Rimsza, proposed renaming the airport in Goldwater's memory but was deluged with public support for the familiar "Sky Harbor" name.[22] Terminal 4, designed by DWL Architects + Planners, Inc., is the largest and busiest of the three terminals with 86 gates, divided into seven satellite concourses connected behind security.[14]

America West filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1991 and sold its larger aircraft and Japanese route authority, but continued growing its domestic operations from Terminal 4 in cooperation with Continental Airlines. Although AWA enjoyed further growth at Phoenix during the 1990s the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks strained its financial position. AWA ended its relationship with Continental and merged with US Airways in 2005. US Airways moved its headquarters to the AWA campus in Tempe and retained many AWA managers to run the merged company. US Airways was then merged into American Airlines in 2015 which continues to build upon the largest hub operation at Phoenix Sky Harbor.[17]

Sky Harbor landed its first transatlantic flights in 1996 when British Airways inaugurated nonstop service to London. The flight was first operated with a Douglas DC-10 aircraft but soon upgraded to a Boeing 747-400.[23]

In 2007 the Transportation Security Administration introduced the first of its backscatter X-ray machines at PHX.[24]

Sky Harbor's private airplane area is also one of eight service centers for the Medevac airline Air Evac.[25]

From 1951 through the end of 2020, over 1.293 billion passengers (domestic and international, enplaned and deplaned) have transited through PHX, an annual average of nearly 18.5 million passengers. In the same time frame there were over 28.2 million aircraft movements (commercial, military, general aviation) at PHX, an annual average of nearly 404,000 movements.[26] PHX has grown over the years into a major US hub, and ranks the 44th-busiest airport in the world and thirteenth-busiest airport in the United States in passenger boardings.

In its 2019 airport rankings, The Wall Street Journal ranked Sky Harbor as the best airport overall among the 20 largest airports in the U.S.[27] "Phoenix excelled in several of the 15 categories, with short screening waits, fast Wi-Fi, good Yelp scores for restaurant reviews, short taxi-to-takeoff times for planes and cheap average Uber cost to get downtown."[28]

Facilities[edit]

The airport's current 326-foot-tall (99 m) air traffic control tower began operations on January 14, 2007. It stands just east of the Terminal 3 parking garage, and also houses the Phoenix TRACON. This is Sky Harbor's fourth control tower and is among the tallest control towers in North America.[29][30]

Runways[edit]

PHX covers 3,400 acres (1,400 ha) at an elevation of 1,135 ft (346 m). The airport has three parallelconcrete/grooved runways:[1]

  • Runway 8/26 measuring 11,489 ft × 150 ft (3,502 m × 46 m)
  • Runway 7L/25R measuring 10,300 ft × 150 ft (3,139 m × 46 m)
  • Runway 7R/25L measuring 7,800 ft × 150 ft (2,377 m × 46 m)

All three runways can accommodate aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of 900,000 lb (410,000 kg) or greater.[1]

Terminals[edit]

The airport has 106 active aircraft gates in two Terminals (3 and 4).[31][32] Free ad-supported wireless internet access provided by Boingo Wireless is available in all terminals, with premium paid internet access with higher speeds and no advertisements also available to travelers.

The airport administration states that the designation Terminal 1 has been "retired" and that it did not wish to renumber the other terminals since passengers were already familiar with the numbers in place.[33] Terminals 3 and 4 continue to retain their current numbers after the closing of Terminal 2.[34]

Terminal 2 had its last day of operation on February 4, 2020. Following completion of the Terminal 3 Modernization Project in early 2020, the remaining Terminal 2 airlines were moved to the Terminal 3 North concourse. Demolition of Terminal 2 began in spring 2020 and was completed in early 2021. Bus gates are planned to be operated on the Terminal 2 site.[35][33][32][36]

Terminal 3[edit]

The terminal is officially named John S. McCain III Terminal 3 with 25 active gates (F1-F15, E1-10) and is currently used by Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Boutique Air, Contour Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit, Sun Country, and United. Delta operates a Sky Club in the terminal.

The Terminal 3 Modernization project involved three components, which improved the capacity and convenience features of the terminal. This project updated the terminal after its previous renovation in 1997. Component One opened December 2016 and redeveloped the central terminal building, creating a consolidated security checkpoint, new airline ticket counters, an updated Museum Gallery, HVAC enhancements, and increased baggage handling capacity. Component Two involved the complete demolition and reconstruction of the south concourse, which opened in January 2019. The new linear concourse includes new shops and retail, as well as a new Delta Air LinesSky Club.[37] Component Three renovated the North Concourse amenities, with plans for a new United Club included.[38] The third phase was completed in early February 2020, with the remaining Terminal 2 airlines moving to Terminal 3 and the closure of Terminal 2.[33][32][39]

Terminal 4[edit]

The terminal, officially named Barry M. Goldwater Terminal 4, is the airport's largest and busiest terminal, and it functions as the hub for two airlines: American and Southwest. It holds 85 gates (A1-30, B1-28, C1-19, and D1-8) within seven concourses. American has their hub from the A and B gates at Terminal 4, while Southwest has their operating base from the C and D gates. The airlines using Terminal 4 are American, British Airways, Condor Airlines, Southwest, Volaris, and WestJet. Terminal 4 is the exclusive international customs arrival terminal. Reflecting its longtime presence at Sky Harbor, American operates three Admirals Club locations in the terminal.[40] Terminal 4 also houses the Sky Harbor USO Club, available for active, reserve, and retired military personnel and their spouses and dependents.

A new eighth concourse is under construction for Southwest and will provide eight additional gates (D11-D18).[41] McCarthy Building Companies was awarded the $310 million contract, which is expected to add over 130,000 square feet (12,000 m2) to the final concourse. Project plans include new retail and dining space, a new connector bridge to the A gates and improvements to the Terminal 4 processor and Security Checkpoint D. The project is scheduled for completion in 2022.

Ground transportation[edit]

Travelers can access both terminals from the East Economy Parking by using the PHX Sky Train.[89] There is also terminal parking adjacent to each terminal.[90] The airport continues to provide shuttle bus service between the terminals and the rental car center with separate routes serving each terminal until the PHX Sky Train project is complete.

Valley Metro bus route 13 has a stop near the Airport's Operations building, west of Terminal 3.[91] Travelers connecting to or from the Greyhound station can use the Valley Metro route 13 bus. The Valley Metro Rail has a stop at the nearby 44th St/Washington light rail station. A moving sidewalk bridge over Washington Street allows light rail passengers to arrive at the nearby PHX Sky Train station and then onward to stations at the East Economy Parking Lot and Terminal 3 and 4. Valley Metro bus routes 44 serve the PHX Sky Train station at 44th Street and Washington.[92]

A number of taxi, limousine, ride share and shuttle companies provide service between each airport terminal, the Phoenix metropolitan area, and other communities throughout the state.[93]

By road, the airport terminals are served by East Sky Harbor Boulevard, which is fed by Interstate 10, Arizona State Routes 143 and 202.

PHX Sky Train[edit]

Main article: PHX Sky Train

The PHX Sky Train is an automated people-mover, much like those found at other airports, that transports Sky Harbor passengers from the 44th Street and Washington Light Rail station to Sky Harbor's East Economy Parking lot, through both terminals. Phase 1 opened on April 8, 2013, and runs from the 44th Street and Washington Light Rail station, to East Economy Parking and on to Terminal 4.[94] Phase 1A shuttles passengers to Terminal 3. Phase 1A opened on December 8, 2014.[95] Phase 2 will transport passengers to the Rental Car Center. Phase 2 is not expected to be completed prior to 2022.[95]

Accidents and incidents[edit]

27 June 1969 N/A A Cessna 182 Skylane, flying from Hawthorne Airport in Hawthorne, California, to Sky Harbor, hit the high-tension power lines east of the airport and crashed at 10:48 pm in the Salt River bed while attempting to land on Runway 26R, knocking out power to the airport and killing all three passengers on board. This incident has been the only fatal accident on airport property.[96]
13 March 1990 N/A An Alaska AirlinesBoeing 727 taking off from PHX struck and killed a male who breached security and ran onto the runway. There were no injuries on the 727. Airport authorities determined he was a patient at a nearby mental hospital.[97]

Cons: "The FLIGHT!!!!! There were delays. Scheduled take of time was 6:59 PM. We took off at 735 PM. Once I was on the plane, I started kicking myself in the you know what because I knew immediately I was scammed. I had purchased a 1st Class ticket for $400+, only to find that my comfort would be the equivalent of that if I purchased a ticket in economy. My long legs would still be cramped. For the past few years, I have been purchasing 1st class for it's spaciousness. On this flight, on the RCJ700, I did not fly comfortably. The space was very tight, and I was able to stretch my legs as if I sat in economy. This was by far, my most uncomfortable flight ever. SMH; A WASTE OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY!!!!!"

Pros: "But, this wasn't bad at all, even though we were on the very last seat of the plane. We were next to one of the flight attendants during take off and landing and she was very kind and we were speaking with her. The flight was smooth"

Cons: "I purchased a first class ticket in hopes that I would have a lot more comfort during the flight. It took me quite some time to get comfortable. The seat was ok, but I found the pillows to be very small and flat. I needed multiple pillows. The head rest was not adjustable, so I also found this to be uncomfortable. Usually when I fly AA, the headrest is adjustable. My final dislike was that the beverage selection was limited. I'm quite sure there was plenty of alcohol, but what about those customers who do not drink alcoholic beverages? I asked for hot chocolate, there was none. I asked for hot tea with honey, there wasn't any. So all in all my flight was okay, but that is solely because of the flight attendant and pilot. They did their jobs and they did an excellent job."

I didn't like that my flight time was changed more than 15 times with no reason why until boarding time. I didn't like the fact that I did not get a seat assignment until boarding the plane. I didn't like the fact that they couldn't manage to scramble another plane and crew, but instead forced us to wait over four hours for one that was stuck somewhere else in the country."

Cons: "Everything! Crew were terse, rude and inattentive. Due to an issue with a bag on board without the associated passenger we had to taxi back to the stand for it to be removed before we could take off. This cost us an hours delay. There was limited apologies for this, no refreshments provided during the wait and poor communication of this. During the flight the staff were inattentive and sparing with refreshments. Service generally did not live up to expected level associated with an inter-continents flight. The flight was turbulent but crew and captain seemed over cautious with it and crew had to remain seated unnecessarily at times and at the detriment of passenger service. One stewardess wouldn’t even let me finish a drink before removing it from my hand claiming we were about to land and she had to sit down because of turbulence. We were still 40 mins from landing at this point! All in all a pretty bad flight, and it’s safe to say I won’t be flying American Airlines again."

Cons: "Being told to shut window blinds and spent most of the journey in darkness. No hot drinks. Long gaps between cold drinks. Staff not very friendly."

Cons: "The gentleman sitting next to me never turned his phone in to airplane mode. His phone rang several times while the flight attendant was going through the safety procedures right in front of us. This was after the announcement came that all electronic devices where to go into airplane mode. The flight attendant did not do anything and seemed to ignore the phone that kept ringing. The gentleman was even talking on the phone while the flight attendant was going through the safety procedures. Later while landing an announcement came over that we were to return to our seats, close all tray tables, and seats ts in the upright position. At this point the gentleman sitting next to me leaned his seat backwards. The flight attendant passed by the gentleman at least three times and never said anything about his seat back. Evidently this flight attendant did not care to do his job properly."

Cons: "BAD Public Relations: AA announced the flight was overbooked, then called up 3 young ladies. Their reaction was seen by everyone. They had just gone through the entire procedure to get to the gate and were forced to be stranded. FIRST CLASS: food service: could there be a rating less than POOR? we were given 10,000 miles (yes that bad) but just like Whose line - the points don't matter when the airlines is that bad! Crew response: We're not any worse than the other airlines - my response: WRONG! NO WIFI NO entertainment NO CHARGING AREA magazines were missing pages in both seats- requested new one never received"

Cons: "The preboarding process by American Airlines was really bad. My passport was looked at 6 times before I boarded. This is after going though passport control by Spain officials at the airport. AA has people waving you down the aisle looking at your passport and sending you to then Verify my boarding pass and that I had documents ok to travel, they told me I did and still sent me over to a security person who asked more questions than the immigration officials in the US, he then sent me to the counter to get my passport scanned ( not sure what that meant), after waiting 10 minutes of waiting the counter clerk asked me what I needed and I told her I was sent there, it was evident there was no reason for me to be there and she printed my boarding pass, which I didn’t need since I had a mobile pass. Then when boarding the aee two people asking a bunch of questions about people having control of their items and looking at your documents which the person who scans to board does again...really very inefficient and slow, it sure it is really helping with safety. Could be done smoother, faster and a lot less people."

Cons: "First flight TUS to DFW was delayed by 3 hours causeing us to mist all the remaining flights. Had to scramble to find other flights DFW to LHR and LHR to DUB. We arrived at our destination 10 hours. No reason for the delay was given. Lousey service on AA."

Pros: "I got there safely."

Cons: "I will never fly American Airlines again. From the moment I checked in with the ticket agent to getting off the plane it was a disaster. The ticket agent was rude, hostile, and dismissive. Employees walked through the line at security forcing everyone to consolidate their belongings to one bag. I had a large wallet in my hand and was told I had to step out of line to put it in my backpack. They only allow you one bag to carry on without paying extra. At the time of boarding they announced that the overhead storage was full so even those that paid extra were still forced to check their bags. The plane was dirty, the service was slow, overall just gross. They don’t have WiFi or in flight entertainment so I paid the $20 to purchase the WiFi. It was worthless. I couldn’t stream anything, even music kept stopping to buffer. I understand it will be slower then on ground WiFi, but it was impossible to watch anything and a complete waste of money."

Pros: "Everything. I bought some souvenir magnets from the shop across from Starbucks near Gate C5(?). The gentleman working the register was very pleasant and was a welcome personality so early in the day. As a service member, I would like to thank him for his service. He was consistent in asking patrons whether they’d like to purchase a travel kit for the troops. A few patrons were abrupt and responded rudely but he maintained a level head and pressed on. Great attitude and professionalism. Thank you very much for your support! Also, I was able to get my Military discount applied towards my purchase which enabled me to purchase 1 travel kits for my fellow service members. A little goes a long way and when returning from deployments or coming home for R&R, it tends to be hectic and I, myself have often forgotten toiletries which I was able to get from the USO. The USO staff were also friendly and did an amazing job handling all of the personnel that funneled in, exhausted. Great attitudes and clean facilities. I would love to see an expansion to this USO location. They were full up this day, thank you for having this available to us! TSgt Angela Santiago Otero, USAF"

Cons: "Got a notification of a TWO HOUR DELAY departing SFO. Rebooked into Charlotte instead of Dallas to connect to Fort Myers. THAT flight got delayed AFTER the doors were closed by another 45 minutes which caused me to miss my connection to Fort Myers AND have American Airlines leave my bag in Charlotte. I rebooked into West Palm Beach to drive to Fort Myers and my bag stayed in Charlotte even though there was ANOTHER 45 minute delay to change a tire on the plane. If I practiced medicine the way the airline handled customers, I'd kill every third patient!"

Pros: "The cabin crew were friendly and apologetic for the chronic problems with the entertainment system. The pilot gave us a smooth flight and landing, and was very conscientious about turbulence prevention and safety."

Cons: "The inflight entertainment system was spotty. Some customers had monitors that worked, some did not. A woman with a two-year old had one of the malfunctioning monitors and was forced to entertain her child for nine hours without tv, movies or music. Similarly, on our flight over to London 10 days earlier, my husband and I were 2 of more than 30 passengers whose monitors never worked and we were forced to fly for 7 hours in the dark on an overnight flight staring at the backs of seats. It was miserable. The cabin crew told passengers they had begged the airline for years to replace the system but the airline refuses. Will not fly American Airlines transatlantic again."

Cons: "I found out at the airport the day we were leaving for Spain that my daughter's passport had to be valid for 3 Months after we returned home from our trip. When booking a flight out of the country it would be nice if Air .com could of mention that to me. We were trying to get to a cruise we had already paid for that was going out of Spain. They would not work with me at all and cx my whole booking. When I tried to talk to them on the phone the man could not speak very good English and was not making any since at all. I let him talk to the British Airlines counter manager and the manager tried to explain that he would have to rebook us that he could not. Air.com was horrible and never helped us out at all. They should not be in business . I paid them of course months ago and I was just out the 1400.00 dollars. British Airlines was amazed that they did nothing to help us out."

Pros: "Never again. I had a connecting flight with a one hour layover and almost missed it. The plane to charlotte was very late boarding. Once i land I rush to my gate because I only have 20 minutes before they start boarding ; I get to the gate and have to wait almost an hour. At this point I still havent eaten because I am waiting around by the gate and the attendants are not communicating any information. Then they finally tell us that the reason the fligt hasnt boarded was because the flight attendant misplaced her luggage in the previous flight and was waiting to arrive to the terminal. Now how is that my issue? American Airlines needs to do better!"

Pros: "The trip from st martin was fine in terms of check in. AA opened their windows early so we beat the crowd."

Cons: "The plane left 20 minutes late, and then we hit turbulence and a bit of rain close to our arrival in Charlotte. I had originally booked a flight through Miami with plenty of layover time to get a connecting flight to Dallas, but AA canceled that one and put me on a connection the following day! When I called customer service, they were helpful in regards booking and assured me there would be plenty of time to connect through Charlotte. When our plane landed 35 minutes late, there was only 15 minutes to connect, and we waited for baggage that whole time. No idea what took baggage so long, but the result is that we missed our flight. AA did put us on standby for the next one, but that meant our relative had to pick us up at midnight."

Cons: "The leg room was barely enough for me and I'm 5'4". I can't imagine people much larger than me being comfortable at all. Also, the chair made my back hurt, so I did a lot of sitting up straight as opposed to being "in the chair". I noticed that you had snacks for purchase on the flight, but the free snacks were cookies and pretzels. It would be nice to offer a trail mix or dried fruit. Pretzels are good for people who might be a little sick at their stomach, but better snacks are a nice option. I ordered coffee and it was perfect. Overall, the flight was a good flight, just a little tweaking and it would be great. Thanks for asking."

Boarding was orderly the different groups waited in rows. Older gentleman greeted us with Merry Christmas as he took our tickets. Overall nice feeling."

When I booked the flights I was only allowed to choose seats for the first flight - Charlotte to Houston...but not for the other three legs of our Charlotte to Seattle trip. The only two seats together from Houston to Seattle were in the very last row. And, on our return flight we had to purchase Economy Plus in order to sit together."

I had to change terminals from B to E. while waiting there were many flight delayed by United Airlines. The pilot said that our flight was delayed due to crew issues/not enough leaving Mexico. We were also delayed from leaving IAH because we had to wait to board because there was not enough flight attendants. This trip was a inconvenience of my time. I should be compensated. This was ridiculous! I will never fly United Airlines again. #getittogether #hostageairlines"

Cons: "Our flight arrived at LAX 20 minutes early so expected to get my connecting flight on time. Boy was I wrong, we sat inside the plane on the runway for over an hour. It was getting hot inside and people were getting upset about missing their connecting flights. We went around in circles on the runway, about 3 times. As people were getting agitated, so was the stewardess. Also people had to use the restroom, and the stewardess kept asking people to stay in there seats and she begin to lose her cool. What do you expect when your on the runway for over an hour. When people got to go, they got to go. So after finally arriving at the gate, "late" United did get me on another flight thru Alaska which was great. Will I fly United again, hmm I'm sure I will, One bad experience won't scratch them off my list, but I will choose other airlines first and United will be my last resort."

Cons: "Will never fly United again if I can help it. Friday afternoon out of CLT was cancelled and rescheduled for Sat afternoon, we had a Friday night wedding and had to get to Chicago. Agents were completely unhelpful over the phone, went to the airport agents at ticketing counter were also unhelpful and threw up their hands like there was nothing they could do to help us. Finally had to switch to Delta and got to Chicago at 1AM EST, missed the wedding."

Pros: "Nothing"

Cons: "We waited all evening for a flight that kept being changed and then finally canceled. We were given several reasons from bad weather, mechanical problems, and crew out of hours. We should hv been transferred to another plane sooner without having to stay overnight with no change of clothes or personal items."

Pros: "The flight ran ahead of schedule and the crew was polite and efficient."

Cons: "The flight attendant woke me up to ask if I wanted a drink."

Pros: "I appreciate the fact that caught the issue with the aircraft while it was on the ground."

Cons: "I don't appreciate a the fact that you made me late for church. Wouldn't have been such a big deal if i wasn't the church's organist."

Cons: "I did not like having to check my carry on after all. I was told the overheads were full so I could get it in Baggage after the trip. For health reasons I did not want the trip to baggage and I did not want to risk my bag being lost. I drive 3 hrs o the airport and I did not want to drive back or wait 3 days for a lost bag to be sent to me as I have before. The person at the gate was rude when I said you won't lose my luggage will you? he said Probably. I said really, and he said well you did ask."

Pros: "I was surprised on how clean the plane was, considering it was an express. The attendance were pleasant as well."

Cons: "How small the snack bag is."

Cons: "Other travelers continually removed masks; crew corrected them a couple times then gave up"

Cons: "I cancelled my flight a week before the time of departure they said that it'll cost me $99 to cancel the flight and $86.45 was supposed to be refunded. the lady told me it will take 7 to 10 business days when I called 3 days later on the 10th day I called and the gentleman told me that I don't get a refund I get a credit of the $86.45 that I can use to October 7th to use on any flight. My problem with that is I don't fly often and I had to cancel that due to my job. I feel that if I cancel a flight way in advance before the flight is being departed I should be able to get my refund back I'm sorry to say it is but I would never use this airline company again because if I knew that the first time. I wouldn't have done it. Oh I also found out because I keep getting updates from kayak of the flight that the flight was supposed to been I believe was 8:30 p.m. but due to rain it didn't leave Philadelphia Pennsylvania until around 11:45 p.m. so I'm kind of glad now I didn't go because my family member who I was going to visit would have been very upset because they had to stay up an extra 4 hours and they had to go to work the next morning."

Cons: "You have to pay forty dollars for a carry on and for any beverage or snack on the flight. There was confusion about the seats as we boarded, which we did by zones, but still had aisle traffic which defeated the purpose. My connection was moved to another gate and they failed to announce it ( yes it was on the screen, but I don't travel that often and was lucky to notice it just as we were boarding... luckily just a few minutes walk away ). The plane offers no entertainment at all ( which is fine for me, but worth knowing... bring a dvd player or something for long trips )."

Cons: "Flight attendants to busy talking to the desk girl about her cell phone One very rude flight attendant to another passenger Another one that set down behind my row ate and read a book with the lights this was a red eye flight The seats did not recline They charged for everything I will never fly frontier again"

Cons: "I was warned in advance abount Frontier's pension for delaying flights, but I took a chance anyway. We were supposed to leave at 7:15 but wound up leaving at 9:30."

Cons: "Flight was canceled due to "maintenance issues". Agent was not empathetic at all. When asked when or if the flight was going to leave...she said don't know. I said so you're basically saying it could be midnight before you might have an answer...she said basically yes. and to top it off there was no agents behind the ticketing desk to assist with refunds. We were able to get our money back by having to call Frontier directly. Lourde was very helpful, but the Frontier agents at charlotte douglas were no help at all. Will never fly Frontier!"

Pros: "Nothing atm, still waiting for my refund."

Cons: "Flight delayed, which as a rational person I can understand. What I do not find acceptable in the slightest is the dragging everyone along like the flight was going to happen. Could have gotten some sleep after a long day of travel, instead spent the night in an airport for NO REASON. Even got to sit on a plane for over an hour for nothing. Please, work on your communication. If you don't have staff, tell us, at least I could have rebooked my trip, or at the very least decided to wait until you had a staffed flight the next morning. Unless I see good changes at Frontier, I'm sorry but I will not be using them any longer."

Cons: "I never took this light, as it was supposed to be canceled because my departing flight was canceled due to rampant overbooking."

Cons: "Canceled an hour from departure and did not help get another flight for us at a reasonable time."

Pros: "Absolutely nothing. The only reason the get a 1 is because you have to gone them something."

Cons: "Flight was canceled 15 minutes before take off along with 200 other flights that day from frontier. We eye told to go stand in a 10 hour customer service line if we wanted help only to find out no one could really help. This was a disgraceful way for frontier to handle a mass cancellation and I will never fly with then again. It was pathetic."

Pros: "Being that it's Christmas Eve, I assumed everything would be a wreck. However, everything seemed to go perfectly well. The check in was staffed well and only had to wait 3-5 minutes. The gate seemed organized and staffed correctly and the flight attendants were courteous. I've never flown frontier but after this experience I wouldn't have a problem flying with you all again. But hey, stop charging for bags. Merry Christmas!"

Pros: "While the initial ticket prices seem nice, the extra charges aren't worth it. Also, both of my flights were delayed for multiple hours with very limited warning. While I understand it's Christmas time and delays happen, no other flights were experiencing delays and we were never given an explanation."

Cons: "I thought it was kind of cheap that your company doesn't offer complimentary beverages or food anymore. I also think that the tray tables in my plane specifically seemed a lot smaller than I remember and that seemed kind of cheap to me."

Cons: "The service was terrible. TSA and Customs had me waiting hours so by the time I got to my flight they told me I couldn't fly anymore. No understanding of anything whatsoever for something that was not my fault. I'll never fly with them again"

Cons: "Ticket counter was not knowledgeable about gun travel laws and caused my husband's bag to have to be inspected. Not friendly and did not communicate well about what was going on."

Pros: "Flight was reasonably priced. Flight options were great"

Cons: "Rates are misleading. Once you add in the higher baggage fee, the seat fees (no free seats), the flight is priced the same if not higher than other airlines but the real difference is in all of this is customer service. The lead flight attendant on the my flight was extremely rude and unresponsive. My mother had a wheelchair assist her to the gate for our departing flight in Orlando. This was arranged by the ticket counter. Apparently, Frontier screwed up and did not arrange for a wheelchair to meet us at the gate in Charlotte. When we mentioned this to the lead flight attendant, he said we would need to go and find one ourselves. I asked if he could call the gate and asked them to bring one so I wouldn't have to leave my elderly mother, he said, "no". I asked again and explained that I didn't want to leave my mother. This time he rolled his eyes at me and said, it wasn't his problem. Really? This is precisely the reason I will not take Frontier again. Please look into training your people better or your hiring process. Cheap flight do not address this issue."

Pros: "It was a good flight"

Cons: "Charged for everything. Even seats."

Cons: "The seats don't fit anyone over 6 foot and I'm 6 foot 3 inches. The head rests at that angle cause your head to lean back at an angle so steep that it takes all of 5 minutes to develop a pain and have to lean forward. There is also not enough leg room for people with above an 30 inch inseam to sit comfortably. There was a delay in the maintenance, the fuel truck, the baggage truck, and the departure. Once at the arrival gate, they were not prepared to guide the plane into the gate which caused more delays. I also found the sarcastic attitude of the flight attendants doing the safety speech unprofessional and made Frontier look like the sub par airline that its okay being. No trust in comfort, time deadlines, or customer service. You will get a cheap flight, not really if you have a carryon or want to pich your seat, at an odd time, with a bunch of people doing the same thing your doing."

Pros: "I liked the price!"

Cons: "The seats were very uncomfortable, no leg room and they didn't recline."

Cons: "I didn't like that I was charged after buying my ticket from Kayak for checking in luggage. I was under the impression that I had paid for the a checked bag with Kayak since it was more expensive than going through frontier's website. Also seats were very uncomfortable and the tray couldn't even hold my drink let alone my laptop. Never flying Frontier again."

Pros: "Boarding was fast and orderly"

Cons: "First off I didn't realize that you had to pay $30 for a carry-on(this is not a mistake). Second I didn't realize that when you buy a ticket that it doesn't include any seat, and that you have to actually pay a fee to get a seat. Which is an additional $16 at the cheapest. Finally the plane was really old, and the seats were extremely uncomfortable with almost no padding at all. I would be able to put up with the uncomfortable conditions if I was actually saving money, but after paying for a seat and a carry-on, it was the same or more than other carriers."

Cons: "You really need to explain what a carry on bag is, before people pay for a computer bag."

Pros: "non-stop flight"

Cons: "$30 charge for check bag and a $10 charge for a carry on bag and they even charge for snacks and beverages. It's much cheaper to buy snacks and a beverage at the airport kiosks. most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in and they don't even recline. You have to pay extra for those. The comfortable reclining seats that weren't occupied, the aircrew wouldn't let you sit in them unless you paid $50. I will never fly on this airline again."

Pros: "I have never had a flight delayed because an inbound flight with passengers for my flight was late. Usually the flight leaves on time regardless. I have run to connecting flights and missed them because the door closed per schedule."

Cons: "Delayed flight VERY Uncomfortable seats with no reclyning button?! Crying baby all flight long FRONTIER is the first airline that has charged me for orange juice. Ridiculous!"

Pros: "They held the plane...THANK YOU!! Flight was quiet so we could rest."

Cons: "There were 3 of us who made the tight connection in Denver from Bozeman. My bag was the ONLY bag that was not delivered. Super annoying! There were only 2 people at the counter (once I finally found out I had to go back up to departures) and I was asked to put my information down on a notepad (because that's secure?!) and they would call me sometime later when they found my bag and she was very unfriendly about it, no eye contact and attitude. Did I mention that it was 5 am?! Unacceptable. Luckily the other woman working the counter offered to locate my bag and file the claim. (THANK YOU) Then I found out that was the only flight from Denver to Charlotte and I'd have to wait at least 24 hours before I got my bag back....Not a great experience with frontier. Customer service line---- TERRIBLE. I really would have loved to speak with a HUMAN BEING. Also the food selection on the flight was not good, would have been great to have an actual meal to buy with a flight that was over 3 hours."

Cons: "Seating brings new low to airline comfort. At average height I still felt boxed in to rigid uncomfortable seating. In a market where check in bags and choosing seats are sadly common fees, paying an outrageous $40 for a carry on bag is a new low in customer service offered."

Pros: "The color of their uniforms were very nice and professional. The animal themed planes were fun as well!"

Cons: "Poor customer service. We got to the airport 3 hours ahead of time and it took well over an hour for them to check in baggage (keep in mind we checked in our bags online and there were only 8 people in front of us) we made it to our gate 30min ahead of time. It was terrible. Tried to be kind to the staff but they were not having it. Very inconsiderate of others and doing their job in a timely fashion. They also lost my luggage. Since the airline is so cheep they don't keep staff on hand to handle issues after the flight lands. No desk to report to, no phone number to call; as if you never even flown with them. It was very alarming as I had important clothing for an interview, medicine, and other personal items that would not easily be replaced. Never flying frontier again."

Pros: "Friendly and helpful staff. Their enthusiism for their jobs showed. Although the pricing for baggage was a bit steep, I appreciate the charging for carry-ons. It seemed to limit the over-use and over-sized carry-on bags."

Cons: "It was hard to hear boarding announcements"

Welcome Back! The Military Lounge at TUS has been thoroughly cleaned, restocked and reopened. Please note capacity is restricted to allow for physical distancing. Access is limited only to active duty military personnel traveling through TUS.

The TUS Military Lounge is open 24/7 to active duty military members traveling through Tucson International Airport (TUS). Please adhere to signage temporarily limiting capacity to no more than eight individuals. Visitors are also asked to use disinfectant in the lounge to wipe down seats and countertops after they are used.

Located in Baggage Claim on the lower level of the main terminal near Baggage Carousel 4, the Military Lounge is equipped with chairs, sofas, TV, movies, microwave, coffee makers, a refrigerator and snacks. It also has access to the airport’s free WiFi and there are charging stations for electronics. The Military Lounge is intended to be a comfortable respite area while members of the military wait for flights or ground transportation pick-up.
