Hello,

This has absolutely nothing to do with Outlook(.com). GoDaddy allows double authentication on their account by providing a qrcode to scan with an app such like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. I used the second app that I just mentioned. At that time, the GoDaddy account was configured in the app, it worked, a code was generated every x seconds. A few weeks later, I removed the app without removing the double authentication of my GoDaddy account.

Now, every time I try to connect to my GoDaddy account, a code related to this app is asking me. The problem is that since I deleted the app, GoDaddy is no longer configured in, so no code is generated. So I'm stuck.

An Microsoft engineer should see this thread is telling me what the solutions are.

I've already do this, even before post here. But no reply, and I know, no one is going to help me is too much to ask for Microsoft, given the pitiful quality of their support. I'm seriously starting to fed up of Microsoft. Yes, I think that about Microsoft and I'm MVP, so try to imagine what your lambda customers think.

Set up two-factor authentication on your Afternic account

Here’s how to add security to your Afternic account.

Afternic’s two-factor authentication set up.

One of the bigger security risks in the domain aftermarket has been the lack of two-factor authentication for Afternic accounts. If someone hacks into your Afternic account, they can decrease the price of a domain and then buy it through a registrar partner at the lower price.

Afternic has updated its login platform and there are two options now that resolve this. One is to sign in with GoDaddy, which I recommend to anyone creating a new account. GoDaddy has offered two-factor for a long time. The other is to continue using a unique Afternic login and add two-factor authentication.

To set up two-factor authentication on Afternic, log into your account and select “Account” in the left-hand panel and then “Account Details”. Scroll down to “Security” and select “2-step verification”.

You can then set up 2-step verification using an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, SMS text messages, or a physical security key. For some reason, Afternic suggests the Authenticator app rather than the more secure physical key, but I suspect this is because the physical key would confuse people who aren’t familiar with the option. A physical key also doesn’t allow for authentication if you call support.

I recommend against SMS-based authentication, but it’s better than nothing.

How to Move Google Authenticator to a New Phone (Latest Version 2021)

Upgrading GoDaddy two-factor authentication to a physical key

It’s a lot faster to log in with a physical key.

Photo of a Yubi FIDO U2F key in a black laptop. The Key is blue with a gold key emblem on a wood grain backgrond

A physical security key, like this one from Yubi, is more secure and also faster to use.

At NamesCon in January, GoDaddy promoted the ability to use physical security keys that use the FIDO U2F standard for two-factor authentication.

I already use a key for Google, so this was interesting to me. Not only is this more secure, but it’s much faster to use than an app-based two-factor code.

Before switching to a physical key with GoDaddy, here’s what my login process looked like:

1. Access GoDaddy
2. Damn, I’ve timed out. Need to log in again
3. Locate my phone (I left it upstairs again!) and open authenticator app
4. Type code from app into my laptop browser window

Using a physical key is much easier. After entering my login credentials, all I have to do is touch the blue Yubi key inserted in my laptop (see picture above) rather than find my phone, opening the app, and typing the six-digit code. (You can also use Bluetooth keys.)

GoDaddy login screen asking to confirm physical hardware key

Until GoDaddy released its new iOS Investor app, you couldn’t use a physical security key to log in on GoDaddy.com and then use app-based login on the app. The new app fixes this problem. Just set up app-based as your backup two-factor login.

GoDaddy now supports two-step verification using authenticator apps

GoDaddy released today an update to its 2-factor security.

When you enable the 2-factor authentication (2FA), every time you perform a high-risk task (like changing your username) GoDaddy will require a code you must enter.

Up to now it was only possible to have two-step verification only by using SMS. You can now receive the codes using a mobile app like Google Authenticator or Authy.

Two-step verification can be set up for the whole account and every time you login or for high risk transactions only (changing your password, your Support PIN, the login username, two-step verification requirements, or when you opt to cancel Protected Registration).

Here are the complete instructions on how to enable 2-factor authentication on your GoDaddy account:

You can increase your account’s security by using two-step verification. When you enable verification, every time you perform a high-risk task (like changing your username) we will text you a code you must enter. You can also choose to require the code every time you log in to your account.

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account.
  2. In the upper left corner of the page, click Account Settings, and then select Login & PIN.
  3. In the 2-Step Verification area, click Add Verification.
  4. Select the way you want the code sent to you and then click Continue:
    • Select SMS text messages if you want the code sent to you as a text.
    • Select Authenticator App to use an authentication app to create the code.
  5. Select when you would like to use two-step verification and then click Continue:
    OptionRequire two-step verification…
Every loginEvery time your account is accessed
High risk transactions onlyWhen changes are made to your password, Support PIN, username, two-step verification requirement, or when you opt to cancel Protected Registration
  6. If you selected SMS text messages, enter your mobile phone number and click Continue. Enter the code we text you, and then click Save.If you selected Authenticator App, follow the instructions to download an app, scan the bar code, and enter the authentication code, and then click Continue.
  7. Click Add Backup.
  8. Repeat Steps 4 through 6 to select a backup authentication method.

Starting immediately, your account will require two-step verification based on the options you selected.

You can add 2FA by going here in your account.

How To Cancel Two-Step Verification on GoDaddy

GoDaddy is one of the most popular domain registrars in the world. For an online business, many people prefer GoDaddy because of its robust services including 24/7 customer support. Securing your GoDaddy account is a must like securing any other online accounts. In this post, we will learn how to cancel two-step verification on GoDaddy.

Having a domain for your blog or business provides an online identity. If you have lost your authenticator app on your mobile and so you're looking for help, you are at the right place.

Setting up a password only cannot secure your account completely. It's just a first layer of security. That is why we are advised to enable two-factor/two-step/multi-factor authentication for our accounts. Receiving OTP via SMS/Email, using Authenticator apps to generate security codes and backup codes, fingerprint authentications are some of the different processes to secure your account.

Securing your account is important. At the same time, the safety of your authenticator apps and mobile is essential.

In addition, we will also discuss how we can improve the security of your GoDaddy account.

Lost Your Device?

If you have lost your device or auth app, you cannot log in to your GoDaddy account. To help you with this situation, GoDaddy provides a way to reinstate your account. Proof of identity is the only option available to regain access.

  • Compose a mail with a subject headline stating, Disabling Two-Step Authentication.
  • From the above form, copy the body of the content.
  • Attach your Government-issued photo-id* in the mail for identity verification.

Note: The photo-id should be in color which must clearly show your name, signature, your face, address, date of birth, issued date and expiry date.

Once your email is received, it will be queued which can take quite some time to get a response from GoDaddy. Once the two-step verification is canceled, secure your account immediately.

How To Backup Two-Step Verification on GoDaddy

Can you able to log into your account? Have you already turned on the two-step verification? You may need to backup the two-step verification for later use. In the future, if you lost your mobile or auth app, you can use the backup method for accessing your account.

  • Go to your account settings>Login and Pin>2-Step Verification.
  • Add one more mobile number or choose the authenticator app option. If you choose auth app option, you need to scan the barcode from another mobile using an authenticator app.
In the 2-Step verification area, you can change your backup methods at any time as long as you have access to your account.

Conclusion

Securing your account requires two layers of protection. One is a strong random password and the other is setting up two-step verification. Keeping your mobile safe and additional backup methods are necessary to retain the ownership of your account without any issue.
