Career Advancement

We help people find a new career path at Amazon – and beyond

Hiring and developing the best people is critical to our mission of being Earth’s Best Employer. We recognize that every Amazonian is a leader who can help us innovate and grow. We strive to maintain an environment where people can learn, adapt, and excel. We’ve made a $1.2 billion commitment to upskilling our employees by investing in free skills training, tuition reimbursement programs, and a variety of certifications. Amazon believes everyone should have the opportunity to learn new skills and build their career – whether that means at Amazon or elsewhere.

Career Choice Program

Amazon provides a benefit to front-line employees that pays for education in fields that will lead them to in-demand, high-paying jobs – regardless of those skills being relevant to a career at Amazon.

Amazon provides funding for employees studying aircraft mechanics, computer aided design, machine tool tech, medical lab tech, nursing, and other fields. Currently, we pre-pay 95% of tuition, fees, and books towards certifications and associates degrees.

Beginning in January, Amazon will fund full college tuition for Bachelor’s degrees, a high school GED, and English as a Second Language (ESL) proficiency certifications. Employees will be able to participate in the Career Choice opportunities after a much shorter window – 90 days, and participate for as many years as they work at Amazon.

Amazon Career Skills and Upskilling

AWS Grow Our Own Talent

AWS Grow Our Own Talent offers on-the-job training and job placement opportunities to Amazon employees and entry-level candidates with nontraditional backgrounds. The training will help them pursue roles to innovate within Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers and safely deliver high-quality cloud computing services to customers. Participating employees are hired into roles like data center technicians and operations technicians, and complete in-person, on-the-job training for up to six months.

Surge2IT

Surge2IT is designed to help entry-level IT employees across Amazon’s operations network pursue careers in higher-paying technical roles through self-paced learning resources. The course helps employees develop the skills necessary to advance their career in the information technology field, such as supporting the Amazon Robotics picking and stowing technology. Participants who complete the course and move up at Amazon can make an additional $10,000 a year.

UX Apprenticeships

The User Experience Design and Research Apprenticeship program combines instructor-led training and real-world experience in a one-year program that offers employees the opportunity to learn and develop skills in research and design on teams across Amazon, including Prime Video, Alexa, AWS, and Amazon Fashion. Graduates are ready for jobs that help improve the experience of Amazon customers, from making payments easier on Amazon sites to designing features that make devices more accessible.

I believe it is "Powered industrial truck" like a forklift or electric pallet jack. I have worked slews of warehouse jobs and often saw that on there.

Good to know this information about working conditions. Never worked in a warehouse or on a assembly line. I think people have to take a test to see how fast you are on the assembly line? Been told must work 10 hours at least a day.

Thanks.

Called Amazon SMX and they told me I will not need forklift experience. They talked like the production line speed is slow and no speed test or any other test is not required. I will need to be able to work between 8-12 hours a day on my feet.

From reading that.. It sounds like you would be a contractor for a company Amazon has working for them to Staff their buildings.

I manage in a distribution center.. It can be tough, physical work. Most of the people I talk to here leave exhausted at the end of the day. You are timed on things and have to live up to certain metrics... at Amazon it is even worse from what I understand.
