Vivint offers three levels of 24/7 professional monitoring.
- The Smart Protect is $29.99 per month, which covers basic home security monitoring and the option to finance your equipment.
- The Smart Protect + Control adds Vivint home automation to your plan for $39.99 per month.
- The top tier plan, called Smart Complete for $49.99 per month, provides you with video surveillance through the Vivint Outdoor Camera Pro and the Vivint Doorbell Camera and gives you the opportunity to add two special security features that you select for your system.
You pay for the equipment separately. If you have any plan but the Smart Protect, you can get the equipment costs financed over five years. It’s added to your monthly bill. Vivint has a lot to offer when it comes to home security and smart home equipment. The Vivint representatives help you put together the equipment package that meets your home security goals and stays within your budget. The typical package ranges from $700 to $1,800. - Can I use Vivint without a subscription?
You can use Vivint equipment without a subscription, but you wouldn’t have the benefit of professional monitoring, couldn’t access the mobile application, and won’t be able to use the 24/7 technical support service.
- What type of connection does Vivint equipment use?
This home security can use landline connections and/or cellular to keep you connected to the monitoring center.
- Does Vivint support third-party devices?

Vivint offers several options if you’re moving to a new home. You can set up a new contract and get all new equipment at your new place. If you like your current equipment, you can take everything with you except for the starter equipment.
Some smart devices are difficult to move without an extensive process. Vivint replaces these devices at your new location. If you’d rather take everything to avoid waiting for new starter equipment, then you can do that instead.
- Does Vivint check my credit score?
Vivint checks your credit score if you’re using the FlexPay financing option for equipment costs. If you’re purchasing your equipment upfront, then it doesn’t need to pull your credit.
- Do I need a contract with Vivint?
Vivint offers month-to-month payments for people who buy their equipment outright. If you’re financing the equipment, you have a five-year contract with this home security company.
- Can I transfer my Vivint service?
Yes, you can transfer your contract to a new person for a $99 transfer fee. This fee is waived if that person chooses to sign a brand new contract with Vivint. Transferring your contract is a good idea if you still have a long time before your contract finishes.
- Do I have to pay for a Vivint service visit?
Service visits are covered if you pay for Vivint’s premium service. Otherwise, after the first 120 days, you are responsible for paying a fee for each visit. This cost may vary based on your location and the problem you’re having with your equipment.
- Does Vivint equipment come with a warranty?
Your Vivint equipment comes with a lifetime warranty to ensure that you’re always receiving the same quality of service.
- Does Vivint support Apple HomeKit?
Vivint does not support Apple’s smart home technology, although the application does work on Apple’s mobile devices.
- Will Vivint buy out a contract of another home security system?
If you already have a home security system but you want to switch to Vivint, the company can choose to buy out your current contract for up to 12 months. The exact amount they’ll offer to buy out depends on many factors.
- Does Vivint have voice control capabilities?
Vivint has built-in voice recognition. You can speak commands for hands-free operation.
- Is Vivint equipment secure?
Vivint uses strong encryption to prevent your video camera footage from being accessed by unauthorized people. The company has many measures in place to protect your privacy and data security.

How Does the Vivint Alarm System Work?
The Vivint alarm system has three primary parts: the control panel, the sensors and detectors, and the monitoring station. Once a sensor is tripped, it will signal the control panel that will, in turn contact the monitoring station. At this point, you’ll receive a call from the monitoring station to verify that you need help.
Am I Getting the Newest and Most Up-to-Date Equipment?
Yes, with Vivint you’ll always get the most up-to-date equipment when you sign up with the service.
Do I Own or Lease Vivint’s Home Security System?
You own the equipment. You can either pay for all the equipment up front or pay for it over the course of a few years. If you decide to pay for it over time, Vivint offers 0% APR so there’s no added interest.
Does Vivint Service Its Equipment?
Yes, Vivint services its equipment. If you sign up for Vivint’s Premium Service, the company will repair and replace and parts of the security system free of charge.
If you decline the Premium Service, you’ll have 120 days of warranty on your equipment. After that period, the replacement and repair on equipment will be free, but you’ll incur a service charge. Vivint also states that the warranty doesn’t cover repairs for accidents, acts of God, or any other reason except defective equipment.
How Often Does Vivint Check Its Systems?
Vivint’s system does an automatic self-check every 255 seconds. This is a set ping time that checks the signal to ensure everything operates correctly.
Yes, Vivint’s security equipment requires batteries. The only device that doesn’t need battery replacement is the control panel. This battery automatically charges when your panel is plugged in. However, if for some reason the battery is bad, simply contact customer support for assistance.
Below is a list of Vivint’s equipment and the batteries it takes.
- The smart thermostat uses four AA batteries.
- The smoke detector uses three AAA batteries.
- The carbon monoxide (CO) detector uses a R123A or DL123A battery.
- The door locks use four AA batteries.
- The door and window sensor uses two CR2032 batteries.
- The glass break sensor uses two CR123A batteries.

Can I Take My Vivint Security System with Me When I Move?
Yes, Vivint allows you to take your security system with you when you move. If you’ve been a customer with Vivint for a year and sign a new contract when moving, the company will waive the moving fee. If you choose to keep your current contract or have been a customer for less than a year, the company will charge you a $99 moving fee.
Is Vivint’s Service Transferrable?
Yes, Vivint allows you to transfer your service, as long as the person you’re transferring it to is a qualified candidate. If the person signs a new agreement, the transfer is free. If they don’t sign a new agreement and instead finish out your contract, then there’s a $99 transfer fee. Can Vivint’s System Detect Gas Leaks or Smoke?
Yes, Vivint has detectors for both gas and smoke.

If Vivint’s fire, smoke, or CO detectors sense danger, they will send a signal to the monitoring station. The monitoring station will then contact you to verify the emergency and send help if needed.
Does Vivint’s System Work If the Power Goes Out?
Yes, if the power goes out, Vivint’s 24-hour backup control panel battery will kick in.

Vivint’s control panel doesn’t require a manual resetting if the power failure lasts for more than twenty-four hours. Your settings will automatically reboot and reconnect to your smart devices.

Response times can vary widely. And although there’s no response time guarantee, Vivint boasts average response times of less than ten seconds.

Does Vivint Charge for False Alarms?

What Do I Do in the Event of a False Alarm?
If you accidentally set off a false alarm, enter your code to turn it off. Also, make sure to have your verbal passcode ready when Vivint’s monitoring station gives you a call to verify that it’s a false alarm. You can also give them a call at 800-216-5232 with your code to let them know it’s not a true emergency.
Can Vivint’s Alarm System Connect to a TV?
Vivint doesn’t currently have an app that allows you to hook up to a TV. But you could log in to the internet using your TV to access your system.
Will the Police Automatically Be Notified if My Alarm Is Triggered?
Before the monitoring center notifies the police of an emergency, it will contact you to verify that it’s not a false alarm. If you verify that you’re in trouble or if you don’t respond when the monitoring center tries to contact you, the police will be dispatched to your home.
Does Vivint’s Alarm Sound a Siren When Activated by an Intruder?
Yes, if a sensor or detector is triggered, an alarm will sound to let you and your family know that there’s an emergency.
What Happens If I Need Help with My Alarm System After Hours?
Vivint provides customers with 24/7 technical support so no matter when something happens, there will always be someone there to help. And if you have a defective device, Vivint will replace it under the Premium Service Plan.
Will My Children Be Able to Operate the Alarm System?

Who Monitors Vivint’s Security Systems?

What Are My Monitoring Options?
Vivint is 100% cellular, so you won’t have a broadband or a landline option. Cellular connections are considered to be the fastest and safest, and they’re quickly becoming the industry standard.
How Long Does It Take for My Security System to Notify Vivint of an Intrusion?
Vivint will usually receive an alarm within seconds and contact you within about ten seconds after your alarm has gone off.
How Much Does Vivint Cost?

What Additional Fees Does Vivint Charge?
Vivint charges a monthly monitoring fee, service fee, and cancellation fee. The service fee can be waived if you sign up for Vivint’s Premium Service. If you want to cancel your service, you can email, mail, or fax a written notice that includes the date, the service number, an explanation that you want to cancel, and your signature.
Does Vivint Charge Early Termination Fees If I Cancel?
Yes, if you cancel before your contract is up, you’ll have to pay off the remainder of the balance. However, Vivint does offer a special cancellation service that allows you to be released from your contract early for unfortunate and unexpected circumstances, such as a death in the family, filing bankruptcy, and more. Vivint requires that you provide proof to qualify for this policy. The company also states that each cancellation is reviewed on an individual basis.
Does Vivint Offer Any Customer Discounts or Services When I Move?

Will I Be Provided with a Certificate to Show My Home Insurance Company?
Vivint makes it easy to obtain a certificate that proves you have a home security system installed. Simply log in to your account, go to the resource page, and download your Insurance Certificate.
What Contract Lengths Does Vivint Offer?
Vivint’s contracts range from forty-two months to sixty months. The company also allows you to pay for your equipment up front if you want to avoid a long-term contract.
Do Vivint Security Systems Come with a Warranty or Guarantee?
Yes, Vivint offers a lifetime guarantee on its equipment. As long as you’re a Vivint customer and have signed up for the Premium Service plan, the company will cover your repair and service for any defective equipment.
Does Vivint Offer a Referral Program?
Yes, Vivint offers a referral program: The referrer as well as the new customer both receive $50 toward their bills after the Vivint system has been fully installed for fifteen days in the new customer’s home. There’s a referral limit of twelve people per year.
Selling a home with a Vivint Solar system
So, you’ve decided to sell your home but aren’t sure what to do with the Vivint Solar system on your roof. Don’t worry—we will absolutely help you with this. In this article, you’ll find helpful information about what you need to know in order to sell a home with a Vivint Solar system.
Step 1: Prepare to answer questions about your Vivint Solar system
Potential buyers will have questions about your Viving Solar system, so we recommend that you’re prepared to answer them. Here are some things you’ll want to be prepared to address:
- “How big is the system?” You can find this by logging in to Account Center and downloading your “CAD” from the Documents tab.
- “How much energy does it produce?” You can pull this information from the production page on Account Center or the Vivint Solar App for Apple or Android.
- ”How does it work?” Feel free to direct prospective buyers to our website for information about how solar panels work.
- “What have your past electricity bills looked like?” You can either show them past copies of your utility bills or just give them a rough estimate of how much you usually pay your utility company each month.
- “Have you noticed any other benefits since going solar?” You can speak to these yourself, or direct them to our website again for information about the benefits of solar energy.
- “What does the contract with Vivint Solar look like?” You can provide the prospective buyer a copy. If you can’t find it easily, don’t worry - you can download it from Account Center by visiting the Documents tab.
We also recommend printing several copies of the Vivint Solar Home Seller Guide and leaving them out for prospective home buyers to read.
Step 2: Find a good representative
We recommend that you find a realtor, lender, and/or title company already familiar with residential solar and how it works. If your representative understands the solar process, it will make a huge difference in your home selling experience.
Step 3: Collect your paperwork
At some point during the selling process, your realtor may ask you for certain documents, including the design of the solar system (see step 1) and the last four to six months’ worth of bills from your utility company and Vivint Solar. Like the design, you can access your Vivint Solar billing history by logging in to Account Center and clicking on the “Manage Payments” tab.
Step 4. Determine your selling options
Your selling options vary depending on the type of contract you signed, along with when you signed it. To make this easier on you, we’re going to review each contract type and the options that go with them.
If you signed a Loan Agreement, you have a couple of options when it comes to selling your home:
Option 1. You can talk to prospective homebuyers about taking over the remaining life of your loan. It will be up to our loan provider to determine whether or not the new homeowner is eligible to take over your loan, but we recommend talking to them about it so you’ll have a clear idea of their requirements.
Option 2. As long as you’re eligible, you can increase the overall cost of your home to cover the balance of your solar loan. Though you’ll want to keep making payments while your home is on the market (hopefully it doesn’t take too long to sell), once the sale goes through, you may have enough to pay off the remaining balance of your solar loan.
Cash Purchase Agreement
There’s really only one option for you if you purchased a system by paying Vivint Solar directly. Similar to financing the purchase through a lender, you can increase the overall cost of your home to include the value of the Vivint Solar system. We recommend getting your home appraised to accurately account for its value with the Vivint Solar system that you purchased.
Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) or Lease Agreement
If you signed a PPA or Lease Agreement, your options become a bit more technical, and here’s why...
After we installed your solar energy system on your home, we contacted your county clerk and had them place a notice regarding the system (commonly referred to as a UCC or PUC filing). This notice basically says to other third-parties, “Hey, just an FYI, the solar energy system on this home belongs to Vivint Solar.”
It’s possible that other lenders may tell you that we have placed a lien on your home—this is incorrect. A notice on record is not a lien and should never be mistaken for one.
Why do we do this, you may be wondering? The simplest answer is because we own the system and want to ensure we’re notified if you ever choose to sell your home in the future (which you obviously have).
If you recall from your discussion with your Sales Manager, one of the benefits of a PPA or Lease Agreement is that we agree to own, install, activate and maintain the solar energy system at no cost to you. In return, you agree to monitor the solar energy production and have the opportunity to benefit from the clean energy your system generates.
Because we still own it, we also want to keep track of the solar energy system, so we always know where it is and how it’s working. As an extra measure of security, we contact your local county and pay a fee to place a public notice filing with them. If you ever go to sell your home, you, your agent and/or title company will see the record and know to contact us about the process of selling a home with a Vivint Solar system.
Step 5. Call or email us
If you signed a Loan Agreement and are ready to transfer your solar loan to the new homebuyer, please contact your loan provider so they can help initiate that for you.
Otherwise, at least two weeks before closing, please Contact Us. This will give us enough time to start the paperwork, so everything goes smoothly. We’ll also send you any information you need to make your home sale go smoothly for you—so sooner is better.
When you call, please be prepared to give the following information:
- Home buyer’s first and last name
- Home buyer’s current home address
- Home buyer’s email address
- Home buyer’s phone number
- The projected home closing date
Once we have all the information, we’ll reach out to the new homebuyer to ensure they fill out all the necessary paperwork before the home closes.

We just closed on a home that had an existing Vivint system in it. Before realizing I could swap out the radio and go with a different provider, I mistakenly assumed my only option was to go with Vivint.
So, I contacted them and on Saturday they performed an “Account Transfer” whereby I took over the existing homeowner’s contract, which had 28 months remaining (out of the original 60 month contract). Vivint did provide a “System Purchase and Services Agreement” which allows a three day cancellation clause/policy.
I’ve signed the cancellation policy and sent a scanned copy to Vivint. I’ve also sent one via Certified Mail as well, just in case.
With that said, does anyone know if I’ll be able to keep my equipment? Or does it go back to Vivint?

Bought a House with Vivint, Here is What you do
If you just bought a house that already has a Vivint Home Security system then you are in luck! I believe that Vivint is one of the best security systems on the market for most people. Since you already have the equipment in the house that will automatically save you a lot of money since all Vivint customers have to purchase the equipment and pay for a monthly monitoring fee.
My goal of the article is to answer all commonly asked questions about your system. So let’s start with the most common one.
How do I get the system turned on and get a pin code?
In order to get the system turned on, you will need to call into their sales department and give them the address of your home. They will be able to look up the home in their system and tell you what is in there and how it works. They can also give you a detailed overview of what was installed in there originally.
You can call Vivint at 833-606-2573 or visit their website here.
If you want to move forward and have the system under your name they will schedule a time and date to activate it over the phone remotely. Once on the phone, they will update the software of the panel and set up your 4 digit pin codes etc. You will also be able to set up a username and password to view the app on your phone. This process usually takes about 30 minutes.
If they cannot do it over the phone, then they will send a tech out in person to get the system activated.

Can I use Vivint equipment without Monitoring
Yes, you can use Vivint equipment without monitoring. However, you cannot use the app on your phone. You can still arm and disarm the alarm, and have it set up to automate things such as a door lock or thermostat whenever you leave. If someone were to try and break in while the system is armed, it will sound the siren but will not call the police.
You will need the 4 digit pin code to arm and disarm the alarm. You can call the previous home owners to ask them what it was. However, if you call Vivint they will not give that info away for obvious reasons. So if you can’t get in contact with the previous home owners, you can call Vivint to activate the system for one month, get a new pin code, and then just cancel the service after that. Their monitoring service is month to month so they will have to give you a pin code once it’s activated, but you can just cancel it after that and the pin code will still work.
Is the equipment mine to keep?
If you bought the house and the equipment is still in there, then it is yours to keep. If the previous owner failed to move the equipment with them and still owes money on it then they will have to settle it with Vivint. Vivint does not go back for it’s equipment if a person defaults on their payment.
If the customer had notified Vivint before, they would have asked them to move the panel to their new house along with some of the smart home items. Normally Vivint gives them new sensors at the new place.
How much is the monthly price to just activate it?
Vivint has three different pricing plans. They are $29.99, $39.99, and $49.99 per month. The $29.99 covers basic monitoring to police, fire, and medical. This will also cover the app on your phone. For $39.99 per month, you can have everything that $29.99 covers, but also control any smart home items left behind from the app too. This means that if they have an automatic door lock or thermostat, then you can now control that from the app on your phone. Finally for \$49.99, you can control everything including the cameras. This will give you access to monitor the cameras from your smartphone wherever you are at as long as you have cell phone service.
I do want to point out that their service is month to month. Most companies require a 3 year contract or make you pay hundreds of dollars upfront. If you have Vivint in your home already then you can cancel the service anytime without penalty. This makes it the best deal in the security industry assuming that all the equipment is in there.

Yes, you can add on any extra equipment that Vivint offers after the service is activated. They will have you pay upfront for the item and then send a tech out to install it. If you want over \$600 worth of equipment, then you can finance that amount at 0% APR if you qualify. Then they will just roll the monthly bill into your payment kinda of like a cell phone plan.

I accidentally triggered the alarm, how do I turn it off?
If you accidentally set the alarm off and you don’t have the pin code there isn’t too much you can do. The only thing you can do is to remove the panel from the wall and then remove the back battery. This will get the panel to turn off and shut the siren down. If the system is not being monitored then you don’t have to worry about the police coming.

You can sometimes try the code 1234 or 2468 to turn the system off because lots of times that is what people leave their code as. It is not a guarantee that it will work though!

I really believe in Vivint’s service and the quality of their equipment. It is exciting to buy a house and already have Vivint installed because most of the work has been done for you!
